Head of School Position

Cairns Hinterland Steiner School seeks to appoint an experienced Head of School to lead and grow our beautiful school. CHSS is a K-8 Steiner school in its 21st year, nestled amongst rainforest in Kuranda with a vibrant community and dedicated staff who remain true to the spirit and intention of the educational impulses and insights offered by Rudolf Steiner. The school creates a place where goodness, beauty and truth permeate the pedagogical, physical and social fabrics.

CHSS is seeking an experienced leader to support the ongoing transformation of the School to realise its vision, mentor and support the next generation of leaders, and establish a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

The Head of School is responsible to the School’s Board of Directors for the day to day running of the School. They will work with the Senior Leadership Team and College of Teachers to manage the content, quality and delivery of the educational program, and be supported by the business and administrative functions. The Head of School will be guided by the objects as set out in the CHSS Constitution and current Strategic Plan. The position is a full-time position with yearly tracking against Key Performance Indicators and with remuneration reflecting the experience of the successful applicant.

Primary Teacher - Class 1

The Primary School Class 1 Teacher position is a full-time position commencing immediately.

The position
Cairns Hinterland Steiner School is committed to the care, safety and protection of all children attending the school. Our School is a place where children are nurtured and supported so that they can develop their latent capacities and grow into well-rounded human beings.

The position involves the planning, implementation, and assessment of a quality educational programme for all children in the Class 1 year, with a view to taking the class through to Class 8.  All programmes must be grounded solidly in the philosophy and principles of Steiner Education and be cognizant of the role of parents / guardians hold in their child's education. The Class Teacher is responsible for all areas of teaching and pastoral care. The teacher works creatively, always seeking to find a fresh connection to the developmental needs of the children and to recognise readiness for learning.

We are seeking an experienced Steiner teacher with exemplary skills and qualities to fill this position. The successful applicant will have a deep understanding of Steiner pedagogy and philosophy along with a commitment to professionalism in their work. 

The role requirements are:

• Fully registered Teacher (Queensland) or eligibility to obtain Queensland teacher registration.
• Teach with an anthroposophical approach to each child’s developmental needs and welfare in mind while delivering the Steiner curriculum.
• Be committed to ongoing individual and collaborative professional development in Primary Education, including Steiner Education.
• Demonstrate high level written and verbal communication skills.
• Be responsible for maintaining positive relationships, with colleagues, parents/guardians and participate actively in the life of the school community.
• Capacity to support and educate parents about primary education in Steiner schools.
• Previous experience as a Steiner Teacher is preferred.

Casual Teacher & Teacher Aide Relief Pool 

Cairns Hinterland Steiner School is seeking Expressions of Interest from qualified Teachers and Teacher Aides to be a part of our relief pool for the following Casual positions:

• Casual Teachers (Prep to High School) - must have current QCT registration and First Aid
• Casual Teacher Aides (Prep to High School) - must have Cert III or Cert IV in Education Support, current Blue Card and First Aid)

The role requirements are:

• - Fully registered Teacher (Queensland) or Teacher Aide quals and experience
• - Demonstrated ability to respond to the children’s needs and the classroom dynamics
• - Previous experience working in a Steiner school is preferred
